This is the question I posed to my students last week when I went to Kennard-Dale high school to teach an inquiry based lesson. In this lesson students were posed with the question, "are double stuffed Oreos actually double stuffed?" Students were given the materials and directed to use the scientific method to complete this task with a partner. Students were able to complete this using any materials that were provided, but were not specifically directed to use any of them, this is what made it inquiry. The students had to use the information given (the question) and their own brain power to solve the question they were given. I had a worksheet for students to write their process on.

Many of the students found that the Oreos were actually more than double stuffed. Once they were finished with the double stuffed cookie they were given a Mega Stuffed Oreo and tasked with seeing just how stuffed that Oreo is compared to the regular Oreo using the same process. Many of the students found that the Mega Stuffed Oreo was 3 times if not more than 3 times stuffed compared to the regular stuffed Oreos. We then discussed what factors would cause us to have a different outcome than other students in the class.

This lesson was interesting for me as a future agriscience teacher because I saw first hand how students can react differently in lab situations. There were students that really took their time to get an accurate answer and students who zoomed through just to be done. However, I am very happy with how this lesson went and am excited to go back to Kennard-Dale this January!

Thats all for this story with Ms. Sweeten. See you next time!
