Summer Time Fun

As the semester is coming to a close, I am thinking more about what activities I can do over the summer to gain more agricultural knowledge and experience. While I do have a background in agriculture, it mostly is around plant and equine science. That is why this summer I am looking to gain more experience working with cattle.
I have never really had a chance to work close with cattle of any kind. I know that dairy and beef farms are pretty common in Pennsylvania, and that I will have students someday who come from this type of background. I think that me having more experiences with cattle will allow me to be a better student teacher and resource for my students. This summer I have an opportunity to work with a great friend of mine at her family's dairy farm. She has offered to help show me the process of milking a cow and caring for them.
In addition to getting experience on a dairy farm, I hope to also get a job at a greenhouse or nursery. While I have some experience growing plants, I have never had experience working at a greenhouse that is used as a business. Not only will this opportunity allow me to encounter issues with plants that I have not yet experience, it can also give me real life agriculture business experience.
I am so grateful for the opportunities I have this summer. Stay tuned and learn with me as I go on another new adventure!
