It has been a crazy couple months since I last wrote here. I began student teaching and got to visit another science teacher. I visited a college preparation biology class. The goal of the class I visited was to review for their quiz on mitosis.

At the beginning of the class, as students walked in they had to draw a card which determined who their partner was going to be for the activity that day. During this class there were multiple different stations set up that students would rotate through. Some review games that they played were Pictionary, memory, crosswords, and tic-tac-toe. The students seemed interested in all of the review games and they seemed to be beneficial in their learning. While the students were reviewing, the teacher was observing the room and checking in with the students. By doing this she was able to keep them on track and encourage them!
I think that sometimes it can be easy to get stuck in a routine as a teacher and forget how beneficial it is to try new things and provide variety to your students. This visit was really helpful because I have been trying to find new review games for my classes to play. I think I would like to try the tic-tac-toe review game next!
That is all for this story with Ms. Sweeten. Until next time!

Variability is critical! I am curious to learn more about the teacher. What is her name? How long has she taught? What is one thing she did that you hope to specifically incorporate in your future lessons?
