Be SMART About Your Goals

This past week I had the privilege to teach three days at Greenwood High School under the supervision of Krista Pontius. I chose to teach her leadership class about SMART goals because knowing how to create goals and achieve them is an important part of leadership.

SMART goals is a method that you can use to help achieve goals more effectively and efficiently. The acronym stand for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Though out those three days the students learned what SMART goals are, practiced writing them, created their own, and competed to make a poster that represented SMART goals the best.
Overall this experience was very valuable. I learned that I should always have plans in case I run out of time or have extra time. I also learned that not every student is going to love what your are teaching them and can really push back. I think that this was important for me to realize before student teaching because I had never experienced that before. The things that I learned during my time at Greenwood will help me a lot as I transition into student teaching and a teaching career because they directly related to things I will be teaching in the spring.
That is all for this weeks story with Ms. Sweeten!

Anna, it is so funny how things can be so different for everyone! During micro-teaching for me I always ran out of time and never got through all of my plans, so it is interesting to hear it from the other perspective! We need to connect about teaching SMART goals, because that is what I taught for my life-knowledge lesson!
Anna, I enjoyed hearing about your experience at Greenwood! They hold a special place in my heart!! You brought up a good point in regards to making sure that we have a plan if you buzz through our activities.
Anna, although I missed getting to teach with you at Greenwood, I am sure you made a huge impact on those kiddos! I think that you made a great point, and we will not always be able to reach every student with what we are teaching, but we can always try our best! :)
